Description: This is an assortment of 12 individually wrapped Basic Hardwood Puzzles that was sold to retail stores in a display box. This series of puzzles followed 1972's #550 Pick-Up & Peek Puzzles. The basic hardboard puzzle series was similar to the pick-up and peek puzzles, as both have hardwood puzzle pieces that fit into a hardwood tray, however this series did not have the added "pick-up & peek" features (small yellow pegs on the puzzle pieces and pictures under the puzzle pieces). It is no suprise that this series was far less successful than the Pick-Up & Peek series. Lasting only 2 years, the basic hardwood puzzles simply could not compete with the creativity and imaginative play offered by the Pick-Up & Peek puzzles. Consequently, the puzzles offered in this series are much harder to find and in some cases, worth more than the "pick-up and peek" puzzles.
