Description: Two years after the #183 Fun Jet had been introduced, Fisher-Price decided to give it an airport for company, and the Fun Jet itself was included in a redesigned form as the Airport's airplane. A cardboard box for the accessories was included, much like the #930 Garage had, and is pretty scarce.
The #996 Airport only lasted four years. In 1981, a new airport, the #933 Jetport, took its place and ran for another four before blending into the new airport in 1986, the #2502.
The #996 Airport was by far the best Little People Airport design ever made. The base is very creative with a swing-out runway/concourse, a revolving luggage conveyor, a drive-up ramp, a control tower on the top, and a helicopter landing area. The helicopter landing area has a hand-turned crank that makes the helicopter blades spin, and makes a luggage conveyor belt turn.

Accessories: Please remember that the following accessories are the accessories that are pictured in the Fisher-Price catalogues. These should be used as guidelines only, as other variations may exist:
- 1972 Jobber/Dealer Catalogue:
- B996 - Airport Base - Blue (sometimes called turquoise) Airport with a white base. The airport has a large blue fold-open runway/concourse with a landing strip on top. There is a round control tower on the top with clear plastic walls on all sides, and a round red dome roof. The front of the airport has a white passenger drop-off car "ramp" with a red revolving luggage converor system under the ramp. The top of the airport has a helicopter landing area and a red hand-turned crank that makes a helicopter propeller blades spin, and makes the luggage conveyor system under the airport turn. Overall size: 13-5/8" w x 14" d x 10-1/2" t (closed). Overall size: 22" w x 14" d x 10-1/2" t (open).
- This set was originally sold with a small cardboard box that was designed to hold all of the accessory pieces, much like the silo sold with the Farm sets. We don't know if this inner box was sold all years of the #996 production, or just the first few years?
- FPT582 - White airplane with turquoise wings, red jet engines and an attached wooden head jet pilot in the cockpit that looks from side to side to watch for other airplanes. The plane is pulled by a yellow plastic pull cord attached to the nose of the plane. *See "Variations" below.
- FPT577 - Orange top, yellow base helicopter with orange landing skis and yellow revolving propellers. The propellers have orange triangle outlines on the end of each blade.

- FPT8673 - Orange top, yellow base single seat truck with a gas hole on the back and a long peg on the back for other attachments. Rolls on 4 black wheels held on via yellow plastic knobs. Wheels says "FP". WFL: 07-AI-01-F-M
- FPT8545 - Orange base, yellow top jet fuel car. This car has "Jet-Fuel" heat-stamped on the side in black and it has a black and white braided rope "fuel hose" with a red plastic nozzle on the end. Rolls on 4 black "FP" wheels held on via orange plastic knobs.
- FPT750 - Yellow luggage car. Has a C-shaped hook on the front, and a peg on the back to connect to other cars. Wheels do not say "FP". *See Variations Below. WFL: 07-AM-01-1-C
- FPT515 - Red flat bed luggage car. Rolls on 4 black "FP" wheels held on via orange plastic knobs.
- FPT642 - Green top, white base 2-seat car with side-to-side seating. Other Information:
- Although this airport set was discontinued in the USA in 1976, it was still in production in other countries. It is in the 1978 German Fisher-Price Dealer's catalogue, and the 1979 Dutch Fisher-Price Dealer Catalogue.
